it's kind of a an old human thing probably. i'm not even sure where it came from. anyway, guy goes to jail, right. so his friends bake a cake and hide a metal file in it, because that was when most prison cells were mostly iron bars. he uses the file to break the iron bars and escape.
and now file in the cake basically means sneaking in some kind of tool to escape. more or less.
